Softball Goes 3-1 At Triangle Collegiate Classic

RALEIGH, North Carolina. -- Ferrum College posted a 3-1 record this weekend at the Triangle Collegiate Softball Classic in Raleigh, North Carolina, earning wins over Felician, the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown, and Lincoln after dropping the opener to Fayetteville State at Walnut Creek Field. The Panthers showed power and resilience, scoring 20 runs across four games while holding their opponents to just 15 hits.

GAME ONE – Fayetteville State 6, Ferrum 4
Ferrum battled back from an early deficit but fell short in its tournament opener. Riley Young blasted a two-run home run in the sixth inning to tie the game at 4-4 after Payton Evans had driven in a run earlier. Fayetteville State answered with a two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning to secure the win.

GAME TWO – Ferrum 9, Felician 4
The Panthers erupted for nine runs in the fourth inning to roll past Felician. Mirenda Shields launched a three-run homer to ignite the rally, and Sydney Bisson capped the inning with a grand slam as Ferrum built a commanding 9-0 lead.

GAME THREE – Ferrum 6, University of Pittsburgh Johnstown 5 (8 innings)
Ferrum secured a dramatic extra-inning victory over the Mountain Cats. The Panthers led 2-0 early on a two-run single from Mirenda Shields before Pittsburgh Johnstown rallied to take a 5-2 lead in the seventh behind two home runs.

Ferrum answered with three runs in the bottom half, highlighted by a two-RBI fielder's choice from Payton Evans to tie the game and force extra innings. In the eighth, the Panthers capitalized on a defensive miscue to plate the winning run and complete the comeback.

The Panthers closed the weekend with a pitching duel victory. Carsen Hogston singled and stole second before scoring on an RBI base hit by Carly Constantino in the third inning for the game's only run. Kamryn Permar tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits while striking out six.
