WINCHESTER, Va. --
Steven Harris had 122 yards on 11 rushes and
Quintel Banks had 112 yards and the game-winning touchdown on 14 carries for Ferrum College in its 19-13 USA South football win over Shenandoah University tonight at Shentel Stadium.
Ferrum opened scoring when
Mike Vann punched it in from five yards out on Ferrum's first drive of the game, but the extra point was no good. Less than three minutes later, Rico Wallace scored for Shenandoah on a 40-yard pass from Vern Lundsford. The PAT was blocked, tying the game at 6-6.Â
Scott Puschell gave Ferrum a 9-6 lead 9:43 of the second quarter on a 27-yard field goal, only to see the Hornets come back to score on Anthony Cordero's 3-yard run to put Shenandoah on top 13-9 with 3:56 to go before halftime.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Banks scored the game-winning touchdown at 10:07 of the fourth, rumbling in from eight yards out for a 16-13 lead. Puschell's 26-yard field goal with 7:58 left to play closed out scoring.
Brandon Jackson made 10 solo tackles for Ferrum.Â
Willie Taylor had six solo tackles, including a pair of quarterback sacks.Â
Shawn Winfrey was in on nine tackles, while
Dennis Hardy intercepted a pair of errant Hornet passes..
Lundsford was 12-23 for 123 yards and a touchdown for Shenandoah (1-6, 0-4 USA South). Brandon Hayes had 97 yards on 21 rushes. Joe Lundsford had 10 total tackles, eight of which were solo stops.
Ferrum (4-3, 2-2 USA South) is back in action Oct. 31 at home against Christopher Newport University. The USA South game kicks off at 1 p.m. at W.B. Adams Stadium.
