FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College's women's basketball team dropped a non-conference game tonight at home to Maryville College, falling 75-51 at Swartz Gym.

THE BASICS
Maryville grabbed the early 7-2 lead, but Ferrum battled back with a 10-3 run, capped by Kayla Cabiness' layup and made free throw that put Ferrum on top 12-10 at 4:06 of the first quarter. It would wind up being the Panthers only lead of the game. The two teams played evenly through the rest of the first quarter, with the Scots holding an 18-16 lead.

Maryville extended the lead to 13 points when Jordan Heifner dropped a three-pointer at 4:30 of the second quarter and the lead was 35-22.

The Panthers rallied in the final four and a half minutes with a 14-3 run that closed the gap to 38-36 at the break. Cabiness had seven of Ferrum's 14 points to close the first half, including a three-pointer and four freebies.

Maryville held Ferrum to just five points in the third quarter and upped the lead to 58-41 heading into the fourth quarter. The Scots steadily pulled away and eventually led 73-43 on Heifner's layup with 2:22 left to play. Heifner closed with a game-high 20 points on 7-10 shooting, including three three-point buckets.
