Ferrum Takes Down Eastern Mennonite on the Road

HARRISONBURG, Virginia -- Deshone Hicks and Calvin Washington combined for 45 points in Ferrum College's men basketball victory, 81-65 over Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent Eastern Mennonite University in Yoder arena, this evening.

THE BASICS
Ferrum started off the game on a strong 14-4 run over the first five minutes of play taking the lead and never relinquished it the rest of the game. Washington and Alfredo Abel-Rivera each had four points to pace the Panthers at the start of the game.

Another Washington basket gave Ferrum a double digit lead, one Eastern Mennonite would not be able to cut to single digits the rest of the game. Hicks closed out the half scoring 13 of his team's final 18 points, while Abel-Rivera scored the other five points.

It was all Ferrum in the second half, growing its lead to a game high 19 points after a Abel-Rivera layup at the 17:47 mark. Eastern Mennonite slowly clawed back and got the lead down to 59-48 after a Julien Hagerman three-pointer with 11:50 to play. Hicks then led a run for the Panthers in which he scored or assisted on six of the eight points scored to take a commanding 67-48 lead with 9:10 left to play.
