Panthers Split Pair of Volleyball Matches

FERRUM, Virginia -- The Ferrum College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches in a home tri-meet today, beating Johnson & Wales (N.C.) University and falling to Virginia Union University. The Panthers opened with a 3-0 sweep of the Wildcats to open the day, then lost 3-1 to NCAA Division II Virginia Union.

FERRUM-JWU
In the first match of the day, Ferrum opened with wins in the first two sets, but trailed 24-20 before staging a rally to win the third and set 27-25. Airiana Beverley had eight kills, Kenzee Chaffin had seven kills to go with six assists. Kalee Bunn had 14 assists and Shelby Waltrip had 10 assists. For the Wildcats, Aimee Evans and Kaylee Atkins each had eight kills, while Logan Smith had 20 assists.

FERRUM-VUU
The Panthers jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first set, and held on for the 25-22 win. Virginia Union bounced back to grab the final three sets. Waltrip led Ferrum with 18 kills, and added eight assists and seven digs. Beverley added seven kills, while Chaffin's stat line included five kills, 16 assists and seven digs.

NEXT UP
Coach Shelbylynn Adair's team will back on court Wednesday, September 20, at Roanoke College. The ODAC match is set for a 6:30 p.m. start in Salem, Virginia.
