NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia -- Ferrum College picked up a non-conference men's basketball win over Misericordia University today on the road, winning 78-65 in the CNU Captains Shootout at the Freeman Center.

THE BASICS
The two teams played even for the first 11 minutes of the game, with
Zavier Measmer's layup at 8:57 of the first half tying the game at 14-14. There were five more ties before the end of the first half.
Charles Tart III's fast break dunk put Ferrum in front 31-27 at the break.Â
Ferrum stretched the lead to five points on
Sterling Charles' three-pointer at 15:20 of the second half to make it a 39-34 game. Kevin Lazdowsky made a layup, was fouled and made the ensuing free throw to give Misericordia a 42-41 at 12:33.
The Panthers answered with an 8-2 run, capped by three Measmer free throws for a 49-44 lead at the 11:18 mark. Ferrum never trailed from there, eventually opening their largest lead, 17 points, when Measmer swished a three-pointer with 5:19 left in regulation to expand the lead to 66-49.
