SALEM, Virginia – The Ferrum College men's basketball team lost 81-61 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Quarterfinals to Hampden-Sydney College at eh Salem Civic Center this evening.

THE BASICS
Hampden-Sydney jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead just a minute into the game.
Bryant Wall and
Darwin Randolph both hit jumpers to tie it back up at 4-4 with 17:30 left in the first half. The Tigers rallied off a 14-0 the next five minutes of play, taking a commanding 18-4 lead.
Calvin Washington's turnaround jumper and
Charles Tart III 3-pointer pulled Ferrum within 10, 19-9 with 11:40 remaining.
Jikari Johnson's pair of free throws pulled the Panthers within seven, 28-21 with 4:37 left in the first half. H-SC used a 6-0 run to push the lead back to double figures, 34-21 at the 3:41 mark. A pair of free throws by Washington and one by Tart III brought the lead down to 10, 34-24. The Tigers took a 42-24 lead into halftime.
Randolph and
Tahli Oden hit a 3-pointer each to pull within 16, 46-30 three minutes into the second half. H-SC used a 15-5 run over the next five minutes to extend the lead to 61-35, with 11:32 left in the game.
Zavier Measmer scored 10 of the Panthers next 13 points, cutting the lead to 68-48 with 5:26 left in the game.

The loss closes out Ferrum's 2023-24 season. The Tigers advance in the ODAC Tournament semifinals Saturday, where they will take on the winner of #3 Guilford vs #6 Virginia Wesleyan at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia. The ODAC Tournament champion will earn the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championships.
