BRIDGEWATER, Virginia – Ferrum College's women's basketball team upset #2 seed Bridgewater College with a 63-57 victory in the first round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament. The Panthers, who had lost to the Eagles just three days ago, turned the tables to advance to the semifinals.
Ferrum was led by junior Allyson Cassell, who recorded a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman Maslyn Mosbacher contributed 14 points, including two key three-pointers in the second half, to help seal the upset.

THE BASICS
The game unfolded with a fast-paced opening, as both teams shot efficiently in the first quarter. Ferrum shot 54.5% from the field, but Bridgewater led 20-15 after one. Ferrum went on a 7-0 run to start the second and took a 22-20 lead with 5:35 left in the half. Though Bridgewater regained the lead by halftime, the game remained tight throughout.
The third quarter saw both teams fairly even with the Panthers trailing by one after three. With 6:13 left in the game, Cassell hit a three pointer that gave Ferrum a lead that they would not relinquish. Down the stretch Mosbacher hit all four of her free throw attempts to seal the win.
Despite taking 17 more shots than Ferrum, the Eagles could not overcome the Panthers 51.2% shooting percentage. Ferrum also shot 80% from the free throw line compared to the Eagles 54.5% which allowed the Panthers to seal the win down the stretch.
