FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College picked up an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball win over Eastern Mennonite University, winning 40-32 this afternoon at Swartz Gym.

THE BASICS
Taryn Blankenship broke up a scoreless game when she took a pass from
Allyson Cassell and converted a layup at 7:12 for a 2-0 Ferrum lead. Grace Burke hit a jumper at 5:39 to get EMU on the scoreboard.
Cassell finished a fast break layup less than a minute later, then
Erin Harden buried a three-pointer from the top of the key to extend the lead to 7-2 at 4:13.
Aisha Martin knocked down three free throws to close the first quarter with Ferrum on top 12-6.
Zy'Breayziah Alexander scored first for Ferrum in the second quarter, taking a pass in the paint from Asya Williams and making a layup. Cassell did the same off a pass from Erin Harden to make it a 16-6 game. Burke drilled a deep three-pointer from the right side for the Royals then Lauren Townsend knocked down another trey at 3:18, trimming the lead to 16-12. Cassel made a three of four free throws over the next few minutes to push Ferrum's lead to 19-12, but Townsend made another three-pointer for EMU just before halftime to make it a 19-15 game at the break.
Martin hit an eight-foot jumper to open the third quarter, Laila Glymph answered at the other end of the floor with a jumper tor EMU. Blankenshio knocked down a short jumper for the Panthers, then converted two free throws, followed by a Cassell free throw to make it a 26-19 game at the 4:34 mark of the third. Ferrum would close out the third quarter on top, 30-24.
In the fourth quarter, Williams' three-pointer from the left baseline made it a 33-25 FC lead with 7:29 left in the game. Martin then drove the lane at 7:02, was fouled and made two free throws to extend the lead to 35-25. EMU answered with two quick baskets to trim the lead to 35-29 with just under six minutes left, then Burked drilled a three-pointer to get the lead down to 35-32 with 4:32 left. Kleiauna Riddick made a layup, then Cassell hit a free throw and the lead was 38-32 with 1:44 left in regulation.

Bryan Harvey's team will be off for a week, returning to the court Saturday, February 15, at home against Randolph-Macon College. The ODAC game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off and will be preceded by a Senior Day ceremony for five graduating players.
