FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum's Riley Young had a two-run homer as Ferrum College split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball doubleheader with Sweet Briar College today at home. The Panthers dropped the opener 8-6, then bounced back for a 2-1 win in the nightcap at Vickie Van Kleeck Field.

GAME 1
Prior to the first game, Ferrum honored Autumn McMillen with a Senior Day ceremony. In the opener, Sweet Briar grabbed the early 2-0 lead, but Ferrum bounced back to score a run in the fourth and five in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead. The Vixens would score three runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh to force an extra inning, where they scored a pair of runs and then held Ferrum off for the the win. Nicole Emerson and McMillen each had a pair of base hits for the Panthers.
GAME 2
Kenadee McCullough singled to left-center in the bottom of the second inning of the nightcap to drive in a run. Sweet Briar tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning, but Emerson reached on an error in the bottom half of the fourth to allow pinch-runner Carsen Hogston to cross the plate and score the eventual game-winning run. Starter Amber Greiner (4-6) pitched a complete game, scattering five hits over seven innings to earn the win.
UP NEXT
Coach Josh Freeman's team will be back in action Monday, April 14, at ODAC frontrunner Virginia Wesleyan University. The league doubleheader is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start in Virginia Beach.
