Volleyball Drops Tough Four-Setter to Mount Olive

FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College fell 3-1 to University of Mount Olive in Conference Carolinas volleyball action tonight at home. Set scores at Swartz Gym were 20-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-16.

THE BASICS
Ferrum trailed 10-6 in the opening set, then went to work. The Panthers clawed their way back to make is 18-18. Two Catherine Bennett kills and a Danielle Worthy kill put the Panthers on top 24-20, then Harleigh Propst added a service ace to end the set and give the Ferrum the one set to love lead.

Mount Olive never trailed in the second set, opening a 20-9 lead that Ferrum could not overcome, then holding on to tie the match at 1-1. 

The third set was tight, with five ties up through Bennett's kill that knotted the score at 12-12. The Trojans maintained a one- to two-point lead up to 20-19, then closed it out with a 5-0 run to take the set and open a 2-1 lead. 

In the fourth and final set, Ferrum led 8-6 on a Makayla Rumley kill, only to see the Trojans explode for 10 straight points to take a commanding 16-8 lead that they would never relinquish.

Coach Shelbylynn's team will be back on court Friday, October 3, at Erskine College. The Conference Carolinas matchup is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start in Due West, South Carolina.
