Ferrum Men Win Double-OT Thriller

FLORENCE, S.C. -- Rodrigo Farias had 30 points and Gerren Jones had 28 points to lead Ferrum College past Francis Marion University in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action on the road, 99-93, in double overtime this afternoon at Smith University Center.

The win is Ferrum's seventh straight dating back to December 17 and the Panthers' 9th in the last 10 games.

THE BASICS
Rodrigo Farias' pull up jumper early on gave Ferrum an 8-3 lead and a tight first half ended in a 39-39 stalemate. Francis Marion surged in front by four points in the second half, but Farias and Gerren Jones back-to-back jumpers tied the score at 51-51.

Abdulh Diaby's driving layup at 9:22 gave Ferrum a 59-53 lead. The Patriots led 75-74 in the final minute of regulation, but Alfredo Abel-Rivera knocked down a free throw to send it to overtime. 

In overtime, a Farias jumper and Jones free throw in the waning seconds sent the game into a second overtime period. Farias had a jumper and a layup and Sterling Charles had a three-pointer to lift Ferrum to a 91-84 lead to open the second overtime, and the Panthers held from there on for the road win.
