LEXINGTON, Virginia - The Ferrum College Track & Field teams turned in a strong all-around performance Saturday at the VMI Winter Classic, highlighted by a first-place finish, multiple personal records, and several point-scoring efforts. Leading the way was freshman
Zenallah Hatcher-Simmons, whose winning throw in the shot put not only set a personal record but currently ranks first in Conference Carolinas this season.
MENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Tristan Peterson (Fr.) – Personal-best 7.04 in the 60m prelims.
- Kalaib Gebrehaimanot (Fr.) – 7th in the 60m hurdles final (8.79), scoring 2 points after qualifying earlier in the day.
- Deontae Lawson (Sr.) – 7th in the 200m (22.62, SB); also competed in the triple jump (12.61m).
- Josiah Gallegos (Fr.) – Personal-best 52.58 in the 400m.
- Bryce Penn (Fr.) – Personal-best 55.83 in the 400m.
- Damani Veney-Epps (Fr.) – 8th in the 800m (2:01.97), scoring 1 point.
- Ethan Fitzgerald (Fr.) – Personal-best 2:04.50 in the 800m.
- Seth Truett (Fr.) – 8th in the Mile (4:30.67, PR), scoring 1 point.
- Vladimir Joacin Jr. (Fr.) – 5th in Shot Put (12.87m), scoring 4 points; also competed in the weight throw.
- Men's 4x400m Relay (A Team) – 2nd place, 3:24.28 (J. Jones, D. Lawson, J. Gallegos, P. Barnett), scoring 8 points.
- Men's 4x400m Relay (B Team) – 6th place, 3:31.44.
WOMENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Zenallah Hatcher-Simmons (Fr.) – 1st in Shot Put (13.49m / 44-3.25), PR, 10 team points
- Nadiyah Abdussalaam (So.) – 7th in 60m Hurdles final (10.12, SB), scoring 2 points; also scored in Triple Jump (10.22m) and competed in four total events.
- Madyson Swaine (Fr.) – 7th in High Jump (1.50m), scoring 2 points.
- Camille Vaughn (Fr.) – 26.66 in the 200m.
- Zyreonia Patterson (Fr.) – Season-best 27.21 in the 200m.
- Sarah Hudgins (Fr.) – 9th in the 800m (2:31.59).
- Women's 4x400m Relay (A Team) – 4th place, 4:22.98 (D. Christian, S. Hudgins, Z. Patterson, C. Vaughn), scoring 5 points.
