Panthers Drop Non-Conference Game

FERRUM, Va. – The Ferrum Panthers were defeated by Virginia State University, 15–4, Wednesday afternoon at W.B. Adams Stadium in non-conference women's lacrosse action.

THE BASICS
Ferrum struck first when Alaia Beckwith converted a free-position opportunity just over two minutes into the contest. The Panthers and Virginia State traded goals throughout the opening quarter, with Caroline Moore adding a man-down goal to tie the game at 2-2. The Trojans carried a narrow 3-2 lead at the end of the first period.

Beckwith added her second goal of the game on a man-up free-position shot early in the second quarter to even the score at 3-3. Virginia State responded with two goals in the final 10 minutes of the half to take a 5-3 advantage into the break.

The third quarter proved decisive as Virginia State outscored Ferrum 5-0, capitalizing on draw controls and transition opportunities to extend its lead to 10-3 heading into the final period. The Trojans added five more goals in the fourth.

Beckwith completed her hat trick with a free-position goal late in the fourth quarter for Ferrum's final tally.

Virginia State outshot Ferrum 34-19 and held a 19-16 edge in ground balls. The Trojans also controlled 13 draws compared to Ferrum's 11. Makaila Veney led the Panthers with five draw controls and four ground balls, while Lana Barkovic added three ground balls and three draw controls. Ashley Font recorded eight saves in goal over 55 minutes of action, while Faith Feazell added one save in relief.
