WILSON, N.C. — Ferrum College softball split a Conference Carolinas doubleheader with Barton College at Jeffries Field on Saturday, March 28. The Panthers fell 8-0 in the opener before rebounding for an 8-6 victory in the nightcap.

GAME ONE
Barton jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, eventually rolling to an 8-0 victory over Ferrum. The Panthers struggled to mount any offense, recording just three hits while committing four errors. Makenzie Burroughs led the Bulldogs with a triple and two RBIs, while Emily Bobo earned the win on the mound, allowing just three hits and no runs over six innings. Chloe Constantino took the loss for Ferrum, surrendering 12 hits and eight runs over five innings.

GAME TWO
Ferrum rebounded in the second game of the doubleheader, scoring early but ultimately holding off a late Barton push to secure an 8-6 victory.
Ferrum got on the board in the second inning with two runs. Carly Constantino singled to drive in a run, and Emily Wood added an RBI fly to center to put the Panthers ahead 2-0. The lead was short-lived, however, as Barton scored three runs in the third inning, highlighted by timely hitting from Madison Mercer and Makenzie Burroughs, taking a 3-2 advantage.
The Panthers responded in the fifth inning with a three-run rally. Laci Garrett reached on an error, Samantha Smith followed with a fielder's choice, and Carly Constantino singled to bring home a run. Wild pitches and a passed ball allowed additional runs to score, giving Ferrum a 5-3 lead. Ferrum added insurance runs in the sixth inning, taking advantage of more errors and aggressive baserunning to extend the lead to 8-3.
Barton threatened in the bottom of the sixth and seventh, scoring three additional runs, but Ferrum's pitching held, securing the 8-6 win. Emily Wood earned the win after pitching 5.1 innings, striking out one and allowing four earned runs, while Chloe Constantino closed out the game with 1.2 innings of relief.
