Margaret Cornwell joined the Ferrum staff as Equestrian Coach in the fall of 2013.  A 2002 graduate of Ferrum with a degree in Marketing, Cornwell rode for the Panther equestrian team from 1997-99 and competed in IHSA shows in the open division.

After graduation, she moved to Alabama, where she became head trainer and barn manager for Taylor Ridge Farm.  The farm itself had 45 boarded horses and the lesson program included 30 students of all levels who competed in both local and A rated horse shows. Cornwell also owned and operated a tack shop called Hoofbeats Equine Emporium during this time.

In May of 2005, Cornwell moved back to Virginia where she became an assistant trainer for Walnut Springs Stables and soon became the head coach for the Radford Redcoats IHSA team. Since coaching the Radford team, the Highlander program has grown from eight members to currently averaging 20-25 members each semester.  Several of her riders have qualified for IHSA regional and zone level competition.
