Karen Carpenter came to Ferrum College in August 2018 as a full time Assistant Professor in Health and Human Performance. Prior to that she taught at Virginia Western Community College for almost 10 years in Health Professions, specifically in Exercise Science. Karen earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Radford University, and went on to complete a PhD degree in Public Health with Walden University.

In Addition to teaching and working with students, she also serves as the General Manager for the Ferrum College Fitness Center and as Faculty Athletics Representative, representing Ferrum with the NCAA. GO PANTHERS!!

Karen and her husband reside at Smith Mountain Lake and have four children, Josh, Jesse, James, and Jordan, and an awesome chocolate lab named Stella.
