Samantha Wangner came to Ferrum in the summer of 2021 from Longwood University, where she served as a intern for the field hockey and women's lacrosse programs. She also assisted in many soccer and lacrosse tournaments in the Richmond, Virginia, area. Prior to Longwood, Wangner served as an athletic training student assistant at Virginia Tech with the women's lacrosse team. In addition to her team experiences, Wangner also spend time as a first responder for the Special Olympics Powerlifting Competitions, held at Longwood.

Wangner earned her Bachelor of Science from Longwood in May 2019, with a major in Athletic Training. She then earned her Master of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion with a concentration in Sport Psychology from California University of Pennsylvania in May 2021.
