Ferrum Men Defeat Eastern Mennonite

BOX SCORE

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Ferrum College's men's basketball team closed out action at the 2008 Don Glick Classic with an 85-66 win over Eastern Mennonite University this afternoon at Bridgewater College.

Derek Mitchell had 18 points and 13 rebounds for Ferrum, both game-high totals.  Keith Crump added 13 points, three assists, and three steals.  Both players were named to the All-Tournament team.

Christian Waters added 15 points and six rebounds for the Panthers.  Marcus Mayo added 10 points in just his second game since rejoining the team after football season closed.  A rare two-sport male athlete at Ferrum, Mayo plays football for the Panthers, which finished 7-3 this season.

Eastern Mennonite (3-2) got 16 points from George Johnson.  Orie Pancione and LeRoger Parrish added 11 points each for the Royals.  Pancione had a team-high nine rebounds.

Ferrum (3-2) led 48-32 at halftime and out-rebounded EMU 42-28.  The Panthers shot almost 60% from the floor, compared to just 38% for the Royals.

Ferrum returns to action Dec. 1 when it opens at home against Washington and Lee University.  Ferrum has already played W&L once this season, posting a 59-44 win Nov. 16 at the Generals' Tip-Off Classic. The non-conference game tips off at 7 p.m. in Swart Gymnasium.
