DANVILLE, Va. -- The #5 seeded Ferrum College men's basketball team closed out its season with a 73-62 loss to #4 Averett University tonight on the road in the quarterfinal round of the 2010 USA South Tournament.

Ferrum (10-16) got 24 points and 12 rebounds from Derek Mitchell.  Nick English added 15 points and Daryl Hart had 11.  Mitchell closed out the season averaging a double-double of 17.2 points and 13.6 rebounds per game.

Cliff Wehling had 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Cougars, while Brandon Malone had 14 points and Mike Miller had 10.  Averett (10-15) out-rebounded Ferrum 38-29, and led 32-28 at halftime.

Averett moves on to the tournament's semifinal round Friday, Feb. 26, facing top seed North Carolina Wesleyan College at 4 p.m. in Newport News.  The other semifinal will pit #2 Shenandoah University against #3 seed and tournament host Christopher Newport University Friday at 8 p.m..  The title game is set for Saturday, Feb. 27, at 4 p.m.
