FERRUM, Va. --
Donte Thomas drilled six three-point baskets to help lift Ferrum College to a 90-79 non-conference men's basketball win over visiting Eastern Mennonite University tonight at Swartz Gymnasium.
Following a 44-43 lead at halftime for Ferrum, the Panthers used a 31-11 run to take a 75-54 lead on a
Lamont King Layup with 11:49 showing on the clock. The Royals scored the next nine points to trim the lead to 75-63 before
Charles Warren broke Ferrum's dry spell with a pair of free throws at 6:56.
Following a layup by EMU's R.J. Sims, Warren dropped in another two free throws and Ferrum led 79-65 at the 6:20 mark. Eastern Mennonite would cut the deficit to six points on Andrew Thorne's two free throws, making it 85-79 with 1:29 left in regulation.Â
Marcus Mayo sunk five free throws in the last 1:15 to close out scoring and preserve the Panther win.
Thomas finished with a game-high 20 points on 6-11 shooting overall, including a 6-9 clip from behind the arc. King finished with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Mayo had a solid double-double of 15 points and 10 assists.

Dajon Daniel led the Royals (2-5) with 15 points, Thorne had 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Ryan Yates had 10 points. Ferrum won the battle of the boards 41-29.
The Panthers (3-4) returns to action Tuesday, Dec. 13, on the road at Piedmont College. The non-conference game tips off at 3:00 p.m. in Demorest, Georgia. Piedmont was recently accepted into the USA South and will begin competition as a league member institution in time for the 2012-13 academic year.Â
