FERRUM, Va. --
Justin Cox's two-RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning produced the game-winning run as Ferrum College beat Hampden-Sydney College 8-7 in non-conference baseball action tonight at Panther Field.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning and the Panthers trailing 7-5 with two outs,
Eddie McGrath drew a walk to score
Quame Green and cut the lead to 7-6. Cox then ripped a single to left field, allowing
Wes Walker and
Taryn Hayden to score for the win. Cox closed the game 2-6 with three RBI and scored a run. Hayden went 2-5 with a double and a run.
Hayden pitched two and a third innings to open the game, and was one of six pitchers who took the mound for the Panthers.
Justin Puentes got the win, pitching the final two frames with three hits, two earned runs and three strikeouts.

Javin Metz each pitched at least one full inning for Ferrum.
Jeff Gray had a three-run homer in the first inning for Hampden-Sydney (9-9-1). Beau Flinchum went 3-6 with a double, three RBI, a run and a stolen base. The Tigers used seven pitchers. Dan Nicoll absorbed the loss after pitching an inning and two thirds with one hit, three earned runs and two walks.
Ferrum (8-13) will be back in action Friday-Sunday, March 15-17, at home against USA South Athletic Conference newcomer LaGrange College. The games gets underway at 7:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., respectively.
