HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Jamal Pullen had a game-high 23 points but Ferrum College's men's basketball team fell 80-74 to Eastern Mennonite University in the first day of action at the 2014 EMU Tip-Off Classic. Newcomer Marcus Huff had 13 points and Rashawn Speas added 11 in the season-opening loss.

The Royals opened a commanding 14-0 lead five minutes into the game. Ferrum battled back and trailed by just three at halftime, 40-37. Marcel Crump scored 22 points to lead the host Royals (1-0) to the non-conference win, including a perfect 8-8 clip from the free throw line. Ryan Yates had 15 points and David Falk had 11 in the win. The Panthers (0-1) face Bridgewater Sunday at 2 p.m.
