MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- Four players scored in double figures to help #7 seed Ferrum College upset #2 Averett University tonight 77-71 in the quarterfinals of the USA South Tournament. The tournament is being hosted by regular season champion Maryville College.
Brian Clarke had 16 points for Ferrum,
Jamal Pullen had 15 points and 15 rebounds,
Alek Ayer had 15 points and
Jovon Miller had 12 points. The Cougars (12-14) were led by Trevor West with 13 points, Cody Stephens with 12 points and Bradley Robertson with 11 points.
Top seed and tournament host Maryville, fell 91-83 to #8 Greensboro College. Huntingdon beat #6 Methodist University 92-89, and #4 LaGrange College beat #5 North Carolina Wesleyan College 88-76.
Ferrum (11-15) will face #3 Huntingdon in Friday's semifinals at 5:00 p.m. The two teams played once this season, with the Panthers earning a 94-90 win Jan. 18 in Ferrum. LaGrange and Greensboro will play in the other semifinal game, slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
