FERRUM, Va. -- Trevor West had 17 points to lead Averett University to a 71-59 USA South Athletic Conference men's basketball win over Ferrum College this afternoon at Swartz Gymnasium. Averett led a 40-26 at halftime.
The Panthers got 14 points from
Jamal Pullen and 11 points from
DJ Christian. Ferrum shot 37% from the floor, including a dismal 1-10 from behind the three-point line. Averett shot 50% from the floor, including 6-9 from behind the arc. Carter Jones added 14 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars (8-5, 2-1 USA South), while Bradley Robinson chipped in 13 points and also had nine rebounds.
Ferrum (5-9, 0-3 USA South) returns to action Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 17-18, with a pair of USA South road games. Coach Bill Tharp's team will face Huntingdon College Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Montgomery, Alabama,. The Panthers will then take on LaGrange College Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in LaGrange, Georgia.
