THE BASICS
The Panthers jumped out to the early lead in this one, as Kalip Jones got things started with treys on back-to-back possessions to start. Emory and Henry would answer right back, running off a 12-0 run spanning three minutes of play to take a 16-11 lead, their largest of the game. Ferrum would then regain control, answering with a 21-3 down the stretch of the opening stanza. Coach Tyler Sanborn's team would head to the locker room with the 39-27 halftime advantage.
Rashad Reed led the way for the Panthers in the first half, recording nine points and three rebounds. Kajuan Madden-McAfee had a strong first-half performance as well, adding seven points and six boards. Carrington Young and Marcus Plair crashed the glass for the Panthers, each recording four boards. For Emory & Henry, it was the Colin Molden show. Molden collected 15 points to add to his seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. The next closest Wasp was Jordan Grant with five points.
It was all Ferrum in the second half. A quick 11-4 run would push the lead to 16 and the Panthers would not look back from there. A Jamal Scott trey from distance would push the lead to 36 with 4:00 minutes to play, and that would prove to be the biggest Panther lead. Ferrum out-rebounded E&H 56-33, including 19-6 on the offensive glass.
Young led the way for Ferrum in the second half with 11 points and five rebounds, three of those being offensive. Madden-McAfee had a big half as well for the Panthers, recording 10 points and six boards. Plair added nine points and Nick Helton came off the bench for eight points, including a couple treys down the stretch. Dylan Catron fought his way through foul trouble most of the second half and turned in 15 points in the closing stanza for the Wasps, leading the way. Molden was held to just eight second-half points, but dished out five dimes. Jamie Clark came off the bench for the Wasps to record seven points to round out the Emory & Henry scoring.
