THE BASICS
The Eagles got on the scoreboard first, courtesy of Kennedy Fauntleroy's 14-yard touchdown run.
Ferrum answered with a
Seth Deaton 39-yard field goal four minutes later to trim the lead to 7-3. Deaton's field goal gave him the school career field goal record with 23. The record was held by Brad Green, who drilled 22 field goals in three seasons from 2017-19.
The Panthers surged in front, 10-7, when
Nathan Carr connected with
Jarrod Mosby for a 61-yard scoring strike down the right side to give Ferrum its first lead of the game.
Bridgewater then scored 24 unanswered points in the second quarter to grab a 31-10 halftime lead and never looked back. Included in that stretch was Fauntleroy's second rushing touchdown of the day, this one from 55 yards out, a 20-yard pick six by Aaron Nice and a Jack Hendren 28-yard field goal.
Fauntleroy found the end zone again at 1:44 of the third quarter, with a 44-yard scamper down the left side that made it a 38-10 game headed into the fourth quarter. Hendren then split the uprights for his second field goal of the day, this time from 23 yards out, to open the fourth quarter and push the lead to 41-10.
Ferrum backup quarterback
Chase Altis hit
Josh Powell for a 21-yard scoring strike at the 5:13 mark of the fourth quarter to trim the score to 41-16. Bridgewater answered with a 16-yard Jaylen Wood touchdown run to close scoring.
