THE BASICS
Roanoke jumped out to an early 7-2 lead just three and half minutes into the game, which led to a Ferrum timeout. Darwin Randolph's three-pointer tied the game at 15-15 with 11:36 to go in the half. The rest of the first half was close, with both teams exchanging leads. The Maroons found some traction towards the end of the half, outscoring the Panthers 7-3 in the final two minutes.

After nearly two minutes of a scoring drought for both teams to start the second half, Roanoke pushed the lead to nine, 45-36, at the 17:53 mark. Ferrum battled back, but Roanoke held the advantage, pushing the lead twice to 11 points. Bryant Wall made a free throw, hit a jumper and Jikari Johnson knocked down a three-pointer to pull within five, 68-63, with 5:07 left to play.

Johnson again hit a three-pointer to pull within three, 70-67, and his two free throws with 51 seconds remaining cut the Marron lead to 74-72. A pair of free throws by Joshua McCleary looked to put the game out of reach with 28 seconds left and a 76-72 lead. Sterling Charles made his first free throw and his second rattled out and a held ball gave possession to Ferrum with 16 seconds left.

Following a Ferrum timeout, Charles took the inbounds pass and hit a three-pointer on the left wing to tie it up 76-76 with 13 seconds left in the game. A great defensive play forced a missed shot by Roanoke at the buzzer, sending the game to overtime.

The Maroons scored the first five points of overtime, leading 81-76 with under four minutes to play. Charles and Wall both hit jumpers to pull within one, 81-80 with two minutes to play. Charles again hit a pull up jumper to give Ferrum a 82-81 lead. Trent Dawson went 1-2 from the charity stripe, tying the game at 82-82 with 1:03 to play. The Panthers and Maroons both missed opportunities to score on back-to-back possessions.

After a Ferrum timeout, Tahli Oden took the inbounds pass and found Alfredo Abel-Rivera in the paint to score the game-winning basket. Roanoke's last effort was thwarted by Wall tipping the inbounds pass and the Panthers holding on for the overtime road victory.
