Ferrum Men Notch Non-Conference Win at Home

FERRUM, Virginia -- The Ferrum College men's basketball team wrapped up non-conference play this afternoon at home, with an 89-48 victory over Methodist University in Swartz Gym.

THE BASICS
Tahli Oden and Jikari Johnson combined for seven Ferrum's first nine points, in a back forth first four minutes of play. Johnson scored the games next eight points, to give the Panthers a 19-11 lead with 11:40 to play in the half. A 12-4 run over a six minute period pushed Ferrum's up to 15, 32-17 with under six minutes to play in the half. Defense played a huge role in the Panthers seeing their lead stay in double digits over final three minutes of the half, holding Methodist to zero points, taking a 20 point lead 42-22 at the half. 

Ferrum jumped out to a 9-2 run, giving them a comfortable 27 point lead, 51-24 just three minutes into the start of the second half. Johnson and Alfredo-Abel Rivera combining for all nine points. The Panthers defense again played a pivotal role in the second half, holding the Monarchs to under 35% shooting from the field and forcing nine turnovers which led to 23 points on the other end. Ferrum also scored 46 points in the paint and 38 points coming off of the bench. 15 out of 20 made field goals in the second half, were courtesy of an assist.

Coach Patrick Corrigan's team will host his alma mater and nationally ranked No. 6 Hampden-Sydney College next Wednesday, January 3rd at home. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference will tip-off at 7 p.m. in Swartz Gymnasium.
