Eagles Top Ferrum in ODAC Football Opener

FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College dropped its Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) football opener to Bridgewater College at home, falling 41-15 this afternoon at W.B. Adams Stadium.

THE BASICS
Jahylen Lee got Ferrum on the board first when he hauled in a pass from Zach Wyatt and raced 47 yards to the end zone. The PAT attempt failed and Ferrum had a 6-0 lead at 13:31 of the opening quarter.

Bridgewater's Jack Hendren split the uprights from 25 yards out to close the first quarter and trim the lead to 6-3.

Jaicere Bateman scored from a yard out at 3:52 of the second quarter, then Hendren connected on another field goal attempt, this time from 35 yards out, to make it a 13-6 Eagles lead at the break.

Bridgewater ruled the third quarter, outscoring Ferrum 21-0, then added a score early in the fourth quarter to take a commanding 41-6 lead with just over 13 minutes left to play.

Seth Deaton converted a 29-yard field goal attempt at the 4:46 mark of the fourth, then TreVonte McGahee scooped up a Bridgewater fumble and took it 41 yards for a touchdown to close out scoring with just under three minutes left to play.

Coach Kevin Sherman's team will be back in action Saturday, October 12, at Shenandoah University. The ODAC game is set to kick off at 1:00 p.m. in Winchester, Virginia.
