THE BASICS
The match started with
Zach Beckner (125 lbs) winning by disqualification over McDaniel's Alex DuFour following an unsportsmanlike behavior call against DuFour.
Trent Proctor (133) followed with a solid tech fall for the Panthers, then
Josiah Canales (141) posted Ferrum's first pin of the night to put Ferrum on top 16-0.
Thomas Monn and Xavier Howard posted back-to-back major decisions for McDaniel, cutting the team score to 16-8. It was all Ferrum from there as the Panthers won the last five weight classes. Gabriel Cortez (165) stopped his opponent with a first period pin in 1:09, and
William Melton (174) matched that with a pin at the 1:40 mark to make the team score 28-8.Â
Joseph Toner (184) pulled away in the third period and closed his patch with an 18-7 major decision to make it 32-8, then
Sam Slate (197) and
Rayshawn Dixon (285) picked up pins at 1:08 and 1:39, respectively, to close out the night. The win avenged last year's 35-13 loss at McDaniel in Westminster, Maryland.
