Panther Men Fall in Overtime to Bridgewater

FERRUM, Virginia -- The Ferrum College men's basketball team dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game in overtime to Bridgewater College in overtime 81-80 this evening.

THE BASICS
Ferrum jumped out to a 7-2 lead, thanks to a Jikari Johnson 3-pointer and Calvin Washington's two jumpers. Bridgewater responded with a 8-2 run, taking the lead on a pair of Khalil Ward free throws, 10-9. Bryant Wall and Washington combined for seven points on a 7-3 for the Panthers, putting them up 25-22 with 4:24 left in the first half. Zavier Measmer's step-back jumper just before the end of the half gave Ferrum a 35-33 lead headed into the half.

A 6-1 run for the Panthers coming out of halftime, put them up 41-34 with just over a minute into the start of the second half. RK Law's jumper at the 7:21 mark gave Bridgewater a 55-54 lead, their first of the second half. Jordan Cooper's 3-pointer with 31 seconds left put the Eagles ahead 68-66.

After a missed Bridgewater free throw, Tahli Oden pushed the ball up the floor and spun around a defender to tie the game up 68-68 with five seconds left in the game. Cooper's 3-pointer was just off the mark as time expired and sent the game into overtime.

Johnson knocked down a 3-pointer put Ferrum ahead 71-68 early in overtime. A 6-0 Bridgewater run put them ahead by three 74-71 with just under four minutes left in the game. Wall's tip in cut the lead to two, 79-77 with three seconds left in overtime. Law sunk two free throws with one second left on the clock to secure the overtime win. Sterling Charles knocked down a 3-pointer from long range as time expired.

Coach Patrick Corrigan's team will conclude regular season play this Saturday, February 17 at home against Shenandoah University. The ODAC game tips-off at 3:00 p.m., prior to the start of the game the team will honor it's four graduating seniors.
