Panthers Fall to #9 CNU

FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College continued with their strong non-conference schedule to open the season taking on #9 ranked Christopher Newport University. In front of a large home crowd, unfortunately, the Captains were able to take both games, winning 7-1 and then 4-0.

GAME ONE
In the first game, CNU was able to go deep three times leading to their 7 runs. The Panthers lone run came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Lexi Bennett, who had reached on a fielders choice came across the plate taking advantage of a Captains error. Ferrum's Amber Greiner pitched 6 innings striking out four.

GAME TWO
In game two, the Captains, for the second game in a row, were able to score in the top of the first inning. Ferrum's Emily Wood had a strong outing, pitching 5 innings, striking out four and only giving up three hits. Georgia Carter was 1-2 and 2-3 on the day. Nicole Emerson showed her speed stealing 2 bases on the day.

UP NEXT
Coach Josh Freeman's team will be back in action Saturday, March 1, on the road against Methodist University. The non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
