FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College dropped a pair of non-conference softball games to visiting Albion (Mich.) College at home, falling 8-6 in the opener and 4-1 in the nightcap this afternoon at Vickie Van Kleeck Field.

GAME ONE
Albion opened a 3-0 lead though an inning and a half, but Ferrum's
Sophia Peters sent a two-run shot over the right-center fence andÂ
Kenadee McCullough scored courtesy of a throwing error in the second to tie the game at 3-3 after two full innings.
Wynema Thomas scored a run off
Nicole Emerson's double to right center in the fourth inning to put Ferrum on top 4-3.
Albion exploded for five runs in the top of sixth inning to take an 8-4 lead.
Mirenda Shields singled down the left field line in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in two more runs for Ferrum, but that was all the Panthers would get.
GAME TWO
The Britons struck first in the nightcap, scoring a run in the first and one in the fourth, both on RBI singles, to grab a 2-0 lead. Ferrum scored a run in the bottom of the fourth when Shields ripped an RBI double to right-center, allowing
Nicole Emerson to cross the plate and trim the score to 2-1. Lilly Laskowski homered to left field to account for the Britons' final two runs.
