GREENSBORO, North Carolina -- Ferrum College split an ODAC softball doubleheader with Guilford College today on the road, winning 6-4 in eight innings then falling 6-1 this afternoon at Haworth Field.

GAME 1
Guilford led 2-0 after two full innings, but
Sophia Peters' three-run bomb in the top of the third put Ferrum out in front 3-2. The Quakers picked up a run in the sixth, then each team scored a run in the seventh to make it a 4-4 game headed into extra innings.
In the top of the eighth,
Mirenda Shields and
Riley Young each had an RBI single and the Panthers played enough defense in the bottom half of the frame to hold on for the win.
Emily Wood pitched a complete eight-inning game with seven strikeouts to get the win and improve to 7-5 in the circle.
GAME 2
Guilford scored a run in the first inning to take the early lead.Â
Wynema Thomas had a single to left in the second inning for the Panthers and Young scored by virtue of a throwing error on the play to tie the game. That run was all Ferrum would get as the Quakers went on to pick up four runs in the fourth inning and one in the sixth to close out scoring. Young went 2-3 and scored a run for Ferrum.
