FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College fell 3-0 in Conference Carolinas volleyball action this afternoon to Barton College. Set scores were 25-16, 25-16, 25-23 at Swartz Gymnasium.

THE BASICS
Barton jumped out to a commanding 10-1 lead in the opening set, but Ferrum began the climb from there. Down 15-7, the Panthers scored four straight points on a pair of attack errors and a service error by Barton, and a kill from
Sarabeth Johnson off
Kalee Bunn's assist to trim the lead to 15-11. The Bulldogs used a 10-5 run from there to take the early one set to love lead.Â
The second set was tied 4-4 when the Panthers picked up four straight points, including two kills from
Catherine Bennett and two Barton attack errors, to go out in front 8-4. A see-saw battled ensued over the next few points, with
Danielle Worthy's kill off a Harlgith Propt set locking the score up at 13-13, The Bulldogs would go on to close the set with a 12-3 run to grab the 2-0 lead.Â
The third set was nail-biter throughout.
Renee Dove and
Emma Powell's block 13 points in gave Ferrum a 9-4 lead. Barton dug in and tied the set at 14-14, but the next two points were attack errors for the Bulldogs and Ferrum went back out in front 16-14. Five ties followed, including 22-22 when Bennett had a kill followed by a BC attack error. Ferrum fought off a match point at 24-23 when
Makayla Rumley smashed a ball and recorded a kill to make the score 24-23, but Bailey McIntyre's kill off a Bunn set on the next point gave Barton the set and match.
