SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Competing for the first time this season, the Ferrum College men's and women's cross country teams opened at the Converse Kickoff, hosted by Converse University at Milliken Research Park.

THE BASICS
Ferum's men finished 12th of 15 teams, while the Panther women were 13th in a field of 14 teams. It was Ferrum's first time competing as an NCAA Division II program. Ander Vera Moleres of host Converse eclipsed the men's 6K race in a time of 19:11.3 to take first place in a field of 100 runners. The women's 5K race was won by North Greenville University's Mandi Pollard in a time of 18:50.3, also in a field of 100 runners.

Ferrum's top runner for the men was Guillermo Basurto-Cacho, who set a new Ferrum record with a time of 21:24.4 to place 56th. Carly Carwile topped out for the Panther women with a time of 22:33.4 to place 64th.
