Wise, Va. – The Ferrum Panthers split a Saturday doubleheader at Bill Gatton Field, defeating Virginia State Trojans 12–2 in six innings before falling 4–1 to the UVA Wise Cavaliers in the nightcap.

GAME ONE – Ferrum 12, Virginia State 2 (6 innings)
Ferrum's offense exploded for 12 runs on 12 hits to earn a run-rule victory in the opener. The Panthers scored twice in the first inning and broke the game open with five runs in the second, highlighted by
Abby Bradberry's three-run triple and
Hannah Hooper's two-run homer.
Kelsey Marshall added a solo home run in the fifth, while
Mirenda Shields blasted a solo shot in the sixth as part of a three-run frame.
Laci Garrett paced the offense, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and two stolen bases.
In the circle,
Chloe Constantino earned her first win of the season, tossing a complete-game six innings while allowing two runs on six hits and striking out eight. Ferrum's aggressive base running resulted in five stolen bases and constant pressure on the Trojans' defense.
GAME TWO – UVA Wise 4, Ferrum 1
In the second game of the day, UVA Wise capitalized on early opportunities to secure the win. The Cavaliers plated two unearned runs in the second inning and added a solo home run in the fourth to extend the lead. A sacrifice fly in the fifth made it 4–0. Ferrum broke through in the sixth inning when
Abby Bradberry singled and later scored on an RBI double by
Mirenda Shields to cut the deficit to 4–1. The Panthers brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh after a
Payton Evans double, but UVA Wise pitcher C. Murphy closed the door to earn the complete-game victory. Ferrum totaled four hits in the nightcap, with Shields and Evans each recording doubles.
