NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Ferrum College's men's wrestling team beat the Apprentice School Saturday, February 28, on the road, winning 22-20 at Apprentice School Gymnasium. The win evens Ferrum's record to 8-8 in the Panthers' first season competing at the NCAA Division II level.

THE BASICS
Ezekiel Keel (125 lbs) started things off with a 14-1 major decision over Lucan Vannostrand to spot Ferrum the early 4-0 lead. Apprentice picked up a decision at 133 pounds and a tech fall at 141 to go out in front 8-4.
Cameron Curva (149) trimmed the lead to 8-7 with a decision, then
Andres Cortes (157) put Ferrum back out front with a 15-1 major decision over Dimetrus Wince and the Panthers led 12-8 after five matches. The Builders won a tech fall at 165 pounds, a major decision at 174 pounds and a decision at 184 pounds to take a 20-12 lead.
Noah Harris (197) came through with a big win for Ferrum, posting a 20-2 tech fall over Chase Smith to get the lead down to 20-16 with one match remaining.
Braeden Fluke then came up with a clutch performance to end the day at 285 pounds, pinning Dustin Uribes at 4:21 of the second period to seal the deal for the Panthers.
