DANVILLE, Va. -- Ferrum College's men's tennis team posted a first ever win over #36 Averett University on Sunday, March 1, on the road, winning 4-3 at Averett Tennis Courts.

THE BASICS
Averett took two of the three doubles matches to grab the early 1-0 lead. Brian Karenzi and Sebastian Ondas won at #2 doubles, beating Sam Egui and Rafael Jodas 6-3.

The Panthers rallied pick up four singles matches. Ondas won at #2 singles to tie the match at 1-1. Averett won at #3 singles to go back out in front 2-1, but Emanuel Ferreira answered with a three-set win at #6 singles to tie the match at 2-2, dominating the final two sets with scores of 6-0, 6-1. Emilio Munguia survived a tough three-set match at #4 singles to put Ferrum back in front 3-2, the Averett won at #6 singles to even the match at 3-3. 

The final match on court was freshman Brian Karenzi, who needed three sets to take out Alex Rudy, winning the third set tiebreaker 7-5 to give Ferrum the win. The Cougars are the #36 ranked team in the most recent NCAA Div. III men's tennis rankings.

Averett is the defending Old Dominion Athletic Conference champion and played in the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's tennis Championships.
