Ferrum Mourns Loss of Dr. Faye Angel

OBITUARY

FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College Athletics mourns the loss of Norma Faye Angel, who passed on October 12, 2025. She is a former Professor of Business at Ferrum.

Faye is survived by her husband, Dr. Gary Angel, her son, Stuart Angel, Stuart's wife, Tara Angel, her daughter, Brynn Page, Brynn's husband Early Page, and her three grandchildren, Bentlee Page, Kodee Page, and Noah Angel.

Faye was born to Robert and Bernadine Stephens in Dale, Indiana on June 11, 1947. She was the oldest of five children, with two brothers, Bobby and Larry, and two sisters, Judy and Linda.

She met Gary in 1968 and the couple married in 1970 while living in Evansville, Indiana. They moved to Boston, Massachusetts, after getting married, then to Edwardsville, Illinois. The next move was to West Lafayette, Indiana, where they adopted their first child, Stuart.

The next move brought them to Ferrum, Virginia, where Gary took a position with the College as a professor. Their second child, Brynn, was born shortly after their arrival at Ferrum. Faye earned a bachelor's degree from Ferrum in 1983, then went on to earn her Master's degree in 1988 and her Ph.D. in 1998, both from Virginia Tech.

Upon graduating with her MBA, she became a full-time professor at Ferrum. While teaching at Ferrum through the 1990's, she developed a reputation as one of the best teachers at the College, garnering numerous awards from the student body and faculty. Her students were regularly winning different student competitions against students from some of the largest and most prestigious universities in the country. For almost 30 years, Faye taught and helped students reach their full potential as students and adults.

Faye earned many awards for excellence, including induction into Alpha Chi at Ferrum College in 1983 and Beta Gamma Sigma at Virginia Tech in 1987. She was inducted into Phi Delta Kappa, as well as the Beta Gamma chapter of Delta Pi Epsilon.

Faye's connection to Ferrum athletics program runs deep. Her husband Gary served a year as Head Women's Soccer Coach, Brynn played for the women's soccer team and Stuart played for the men's soccer team. Faye could be seen at athletic events in many sports, supporting students as they participated in athletics while working towards a college degree. Soccer is a family sport for the Angels, with Gary keeping up a mini soccer pitch at their home in Ferrum.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Planned Pethood in Rocky Mount, P.O. Box 2118, Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
