FERRUM, Va. -- Director of Athletics Cleive Adams has announced the hiring of Stephanie Carr as Assistant Athletic Trainer at Ferrum College. Carr will work with Ferrum's sports medicine staff, led by Head Athletic Trainer
Samantha Wangner.
Carr comes to Ferrum from Fort Moore/Benning in Georgia, where she worked as an athletic trainer from September 2022 to this summer. She provided athletic training services for military personnel, specifically preventative care for soldiers and evaluation of injuries. Prior to that, she served as an athletic trainer at The Jersey Surf Drum Corp International during the summer of 2022, evaluating injuries and illness, and assisting with weather protocols.
"We're so excited about Stephanie coming on board," said Wangner. "Her unique experiences at Fort Moore/Benning will bring new insight and opportunities to the department and will benefit Ferrum's student-athletes."
Carr worked with University of Lynchburg sports teams from Fall 2020 through Spring 2022, with Altavista High School during Fall 2022, and with Greensboro College in Spring 2019. Her experiences include the documentation of injuries in Sportsware, communication with physicians and other healthcare professionals, applied therapeutic modalities, enhanced therapeutic exercises and wound care, rehabilitation programs, enhanced taping, wrapping and stretching exercises.
Carr earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences in May 2020 from Greensboro College, where she was a member and team captain of the women's lacrosse team. She then earned her Master of Science degree in Athletic Training from University of Lynchburg. Carr's certifications include Basic Life Support and CPR by the American Heart Association, and she is a certified athletic trainer through the National Athletic Trainers' Association.
Carr is set to begin work at Ferrum on August 1.
