LEXINGTON, Va. -- Ferrum College picked up a 59-44 non-conference men's basketball win this afternoon over Washington and Lee University in the 2008 W&L Classic.Â
Derek Mitchell had 20 points and 11 rebounds for Ferrum, both game-highs. In yesterday's 73-65 loss to Roanoke College, Mitchell had 12 points and 18 rebounds. In two games, Mitchell averaged 16 points and 14.5 rebounds.
Jerrell Wade added 16 points for Ferrum in the win today. Chris McHugh led Washington and Lee (1-1) with 10 points. Ferrum out-rebounded the Generals 37-32. The Panthers overcame a 24-22 halftime deficit by outscoring W&L 37-20 in the second half.
Mitchell was named to the All-Tournament team. He joined W&L's Zac White, Roanoke College's Curtis Peery, and Muskingum College's Trevor Scott and Tyler Felt. Felt was named the Tournament MVP for averaging 20.5 points and 10 rebounds in two games.
Ferrum (1-1) returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 19, when it travels to Lynchburg, Virginia, to face Randolph College. The non-conference game tips off at 7 p.m.
