Crump's 38 Trumps Greensboro in Three Overtimes

FERRUM, Va. -- Led by sophomore Keith Crump's 38-point performance, Ferrum College pulled out an 81-80 triple-overtime thriller over Greensboro College in USA South Athletic Conference men's basketball action Feb. 12 at home.

The Panthers led 55-44 with 7:43 left in the second half, only to see the Pride go on an 18-4 run to take a 62-59 lead with 1:29 remaining in regulation.  Freshman Marcus Mayo then drilled a 3-pointer for Ferrum to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Crump had a basket in the first OT period for the Panthers, which enede 68-68.  He then had a jumper, a 3-pointer and two free throws in the second OT, deadlocking the teams at 75-75.  Crump closed out the game with a two jumpers and a layup in the third OT for the 81-80 Ferrum win.

Senior Jon Godsey had 16 points, freshman Derek Mitcherll had 11 points and 14 rebounds, and mayo had 11 points.  Mitchell has notched 13 double-doubles this season in 22 games.  He is averaging 12.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

Greensboro (10-12, 4-5) was led by Adam Nicholson's 28 points.  Jason Sharpe had 14 points for the Pride, while Bruce Zamuel added 14 points and nine rebounds.

With the win, Ferrum (12-10, 6-3 USA South) moves into a tie for first place in the USA South with Methodist University.  The Panthers have three regular season games remaining.  Ferrum plays next at Christopher Newport University Feb. 16 at 4 p.m.
