DANVILLE, Va. -- Lynchburg College turned the tables on the Ferrum College men's basketball team, topping the Panthers 69-64 at the Averett University Classic Jan. 2 in Danville.
Ferrum had beaten Lynchburg just over two weeks, routing the Hornets 72-42 Dec. 18 at home. This is Ferrum's first loss to Lynchburg; the Panthers lead the all-time series 12-1.
The Panthers got 12 points and nine rebounds from
Derek Mitchell, one of five players in double figure scoring for Coach Bill Tharp's squad.
Daryl Hart had 11 points, while
Jerrell Wade,
Keith Crump and
Marcus Mayo had 10 points each.
Lynchburg (3-8) was led by Mason Wooldridge's 17 points. Steven Echols had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Brad Kenney had 10 points. The Hornets, which led 35-28 at halftime, won the battle of the boards 44-30.
Ferrum (6-5) returns to action to action at the Averett Classic Saturday, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m. against Carnegie Mellon University.
