Jerrell Wade had a game-high 22 points on 6-12 shooting to lead Ferrum College to a 71-69 non-conference men's basketball win over Bridgewater College tonight at home. The win was Ferrum's fourth straight.
Ferrum opened the game with a 5-0 run, only to see Bridgewater take a 38-28 halftime lead, shooting 50% from the floor. Ferrum shot 46% in the first half.
The Panthers went on another 5-0 run to open the second half, but couldn't get even until the 5:28 mark, when
Garry Brandt knocked down a 10-foot jumper for a 60-59 Ferrum lead.
The Eagles pulled even at 62-62 on Jake Johnson's jumper with 3:57 left, and again at 64-64 on Kordero Thompson's jumper with 1:58 remaining. Wade, Brandt,
Derek Mitchell and
Marshall Hamilton each hit free throws for Ferrum in the last two minutes of the game.
Mitchell finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds, his seventh double-double in nine games thus far.Â
Daryl Hart and
Ryan Firebaugh had 10 and nine points, respectively.
Bridgewater (3-5) was led by Dominic Trawick's 17 points. Segar Jordan added 12 points and six rebounds, while Johnson had 11 points and Cody Griffin had 10.
Ferrum (5-4) will close out first-semester action Saturday, Dec. 19, at NCAA Div. I opponent Winston-Salem State University. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
