FERRUM, Va. -- Keith Crump had 22 points and Derek Mitchell had 20 points and 15 rebounds to lead Ferrum College to a 78-73 USA South men's basketball win over Shenandoah University this afternoon at home.  The win was Ferrum's ninth straight over the Hornets dating back to the 2004-05 season.

Crump was 6-13 from the floor and 9-10 from the free throw line for the Panthers.  He also had three assists and blocked a shot.  Mitchell was 8-11 from the floor and 4-8 from the line.

Ferrum (13-10, 6-4 USA South) led 39-35 at halftime.  The Panthers widened the gap to a 10-point lead after Christiian Waters' layup and a pair of free throws each by Jerrell Wade and Mitchell made it 55-45 with 13:06 remaining.

Shenandoah went on a 17-8 run over the next seven minutes to tie the game at 63-63 with 6:01 left to play.  Crump scored eight of Ferrum's last 15 points from there to seal the win.

Shenandoah (7-15, 2-7 USA South) was led by Stevie Johns' 23-point performance.  Johns was 0-4 from the floor in the first half, with just a pair of made free throws.   He went 7-10 from the floor, including 3-4 from behind tha arc, and 4-5 from the line for 21 second-half points.  Wayne Washington added 15 points in the loss, while Kevin Kline had 12 and Kenny Robertson had 10.

Ferrum returns to action Sunday, Feb. 15, when it hosts Christopher Newport University.  The USA South doubleheader will see the women tip off at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m.
