FERRUM, Va. -- The Ferrum College men's basketball team picked up its first win of the 2010-11 season against Lynchburg College at Swartz Gymnasium, posting a 74-46 non-conference victory.
Derek Mitchell, staying true to form, had 15 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Panthers. JT Edwards had an effective night, scoring 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting.
Keith Crump, making his return after a year away from the program, had 11 points, while
Lamont King added eight in the season-opening win.
Lynchburg (0-1) was led by Austin Chimelli, who collected a respectable 10 points in the loss. Brandan Connor and Michael Wims both scored seven points for the Hornets. Wims also had 7 rebounds.
Ferrum (1-0) is scheduled to play next on Friday and Sunday, Nov. 19 and 21, at the Roanoke Tip-Off Tournament. The Panthers face Warren Wilson College Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. Coach Bill Tharp's team will then play host Raonoke Nov. 21 at 2 p.m.
