DANVILLE, Va. -- Derek Mitchell had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lift Ferrum Colege to a 75-54 USA South men's basketball win over Averett University tonight on the road.

Mitchell was 5-9 from the floor and 6-9 from the free throw line.  He added two steals and a pair of assists in the win.  Daryl Hart had 15 points and Keith Crump had 12 for the Panthers (17-2, 6-1 USA South).

Justin Pierce had 16 points for Averett (2-18, 0-7 USA South), while Marquis Scott and Kenny Hart had 12 each.  The Cougars lost despite outrebounding Ferrum 46-34.

Ferrum returns to action Sunday, Jan. 30, at home against Methodist University.  The College will help celebrate Coaches vs. Cancer, a collaborative initiative of the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers coaches, their teams and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. Donations will be accepted at the door and Ferrum will distribute neon pink spirit bracelets during this USA South doubleheader. The women's game tips off at 2 p.m., followed immediately by the men.
