LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Ferrum College men's basketball team opened the 2011-12 season with an 81-69 non-conference loss to Lynchburg College tonight on the road.
Lamont King had 22 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers, both game-high totals. King was 9-14 from the floor. Maleek Meyers added 13 points and
Daryl Hart had 11 points including three treys.
Lynchburg led 42-29 at the break and Ferrum led the battle of the boards 43-40. Both teams shot just over 42% from the floor. Austin Chillemi led the Hornets (1-0) with 21 points on 7-10 shooting.  Harry West had 14 points, while Manny Hernandez and Nate Campbell had 12 points each.
Ferrum (0-1) plays next in Roanoke College's V Foundation Classic, to be held Friday through Sunday, Nov. 18-20 in Salem, Virginia. Coach Bill Tharp's team faces Emory University Friday at 6 p.m. The Panthers then take on host Roanoke Sunday at 2 p.m.
